(Think about that for a second.)

We’ve all heard the expression “dying of a broken heart.” It may sound hard to believe, but the phenomenon is quite real.

Unresolved emotions like grief, anger, or fear can quietly build pressure in the body and contribute to issues like high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems, and worse.

The hidden strain of emotional pains of the past affect the physical health of the heart, taking a toll over a lifetime of real and imagined stressors.

Your emotional health is a direct input into your physical health.

So before you ignore your body and reflexively say “I’m fine,” now is a good time to take a deep breath, check in with yourself for a moment and ask, “how do I feel in my heart?“

When we’re hurt physically or emotionally, our body and nervous system naturally engage guarding mechanisms. In the wild, injured animals withdraw from socializing and normal tasks and hide until they’re healed.

But in humans, the fight, flight, and freeze response can go haywire. Our fragile nervous systems face a constant barrage of unnatural, overstimulating modern stressors that eat away at our health, vitality, and sanity.

When natural healing processes are interrupted, we can develop subconscious maladaptive patterns of avoidance, isolation, and lack of connection.

This incomplete healing can feel like you’re not fully alive or not fully present, yet also completely overwhelmed. (After getting my bell rung pretty good recently in a hit-and-run car wreck, I can say I’ve been there myself.)

After a lifetime of struggles, you might not feel not quite so free, open, and alive as a child chasing butterflies in the backyard.

So how can you create the life you dream about when your energy is being drained by the emotional baggage?

How can we build profound connections with people we care about if our hearts are shuttered behind protective defensive emotions?

The paradox is that pain and struggle actually shape us into the people we’re meant to become. Some even call it the human condition. This week’s guest offers that our trials may even serve a divine purpose.

No matter what life has in store for us, the good news is that the human body has a remarkable (and often miraculous) ability to heal. This week’s guest has helped millions of souls across the world do just that.

Dr. Bradley Nelson is a renowned Holistic Physician, father of 8, husband of 44 years, bestselling author of multiple books including his latest The Heart Code, and a visionary thought leader in root cause healing and personal transformation.

He’s here to help us drop the emotional baggage and smash through the mental blocks that prevent you from living your best life.

In this episode with Dr. Nelson, you’ll discover:

How to identify and drop maladaptive subconscious patterns

How clearing trapped emotions restores our body’s natural healing intelligence

Why trapped emotions create patterns of limitation that seem impossible to break (and what to do about it)

How to show up unguarded and authentic, feeling fully alive

And more...

To get special ad-free versions of this show and more goodies, join us as a free or paid subscriber!

Share

Find Dr. Bradley Nelson and his work at:

Website: DrBradleyNelson.com

Website: DiscoverHealing.com

Books: The Heart Code, The Emotion Code, The Body Code, The Belief Code

Facebook: @DrBradleyNelson

X: @DrBradleyNelson

Instagram: @OfficialDrBradleyNelson

YouTube: @DrBradleyNelson

LinkedIn: @DrBradleyNelson

Big news! We just launched our brand new membership club where you can level up with fellow aspiring and veteran health nuts like us. make today shape the health and destiny of your children before they’re ever born?

What if the most important gift you could ever give your future child is the health and resilience you build in yourself today?

As rates of chronic health conditions in children—including autism, anxiety, diabetes, obesity, and autoimmune disorders—continue to rise, it’s time to take preconception seriously.

Science shows that the health of our children is determined not just by genetics, but epigenetics. Your health at the time of conception is a snapshot or time capsule that contains the genetic and epigenetic blueprint for your child for the rest of time.

It’s a shocking realization, especially for men: Your lifestyle choices during preconception will forever affect the genetics and health of your children (and their children!).

That means optimizing your health and fitness is not merely an exercise in vanity, but an opportunity to give your future children the best chance at health and success.

After all, the biological definition of fitness is the ability to produce healthy offspring.

Today, we’re exploring how the choices we make today shape not just our own health, but the health of our future children and even generations to come.

I’m thrilled to be joined by Dr. Ann Shippy, a unicorn in the world of medicine—a board-certified internal medicine physician, certified Functional Medicine Practitioner, and a former IBM engineer who’s turned her passion for macro-level systems thinking and problem-solving into a mission to revolutionize how we think about health.

If you care about your health, your family’s future, or just want to understand how to build true resilience in a toxic world, you’re in the I met Jay last year through our friend and past guest of the show, Noah Kagan.

At 17, Jay sent Noah Kagan, founder of AppSumo, a 19-page pitch deck breaking down gaps in his social media and email marketing—and how to fix them. That landed him a role as Head of Content, where he led social media campaigns, including the one that made Million Dollar Weekend a New York Times bestseller.

In the following months, Jay went ahead and wrote and published and launched a book himself. I love the gumption.

Building six-figure brands before he could legally drink, Jay is all about taking action, and what he has to say is worth a close listen.

Your procrastination and excuses don’t stand a chance.

Before we get to the interview, I want give a quick thank you to all of you who have reached out with well-wishes.

(In case you missed the last episode, early this summer I was seriously injured in a high-speed hit-and-run. other driver fled, but good Texans who saw what happened helped me get out of harms way.

It only seems appropriate that this week’s guest shares his name with Lazarus, the legendary Biblical figure who was raised from the dead.

Though I wasn’t quite dead, I’ve felt no more than half alive for the past couple months as I recover from a major concussion which, unfortunately is not my first traumatic brain injury. The crash also herniated multiple discs and tore ligaments in my neck, which is similar to tearing your ACL in your knee, except it’s impossible to stay off your neck so the pain is unrelenting.

You’re probably wondering about the other driver, as am I, but since it’s an ongoing police investigation I don’t have information to share yet.

But all and all, I’m grateful to be in one piece. I have an excellent team of doctors guiding my recovery, and thank you for the well-wishes. I’ll keep you updated.

Accidents and setbacks are common. It’s how we respond, react, and recover from them that really matters. This ability to get up after you’re knocked down is far and away the most important quality for long term success in health or anything else. Fate is coming for all of us, and we’ll all eventually be ravaged by time, so it’s important to build in yourself the qualities of becoming anti-fragile.

This week’s guest, Dr. Ryan Lazarus, faced a near-death experience at age 18 in a devastating sports accident that crushed his organs. For years, he grappled with life-altering health issues, including Type 1 diabetes, digestive failure, and immune problems, each day presenting a new battle to be fought. He’s navigated through a maze of trauma, illness, confusion, setbacks, and despair, often questioning the purpose and meaning behind chronic illness and suffering.

It was precisely this burden of hardship that molded his resilience and fueled his passion for helping others. After years of pain and struggle, he mustered the courage and determination to seize control of his own health journey. Ryan delved into the realms of functional medicine, nutrition, fitness, and mental fitness acquiring a wealth of knowledge and tools that enabled him to forge his own path to recovery.

Please take a moment to make sure you’re subscribed wherever you listen to podcasts. In the rapid-fire, hyper-connected, dopamine-driven modern world, harnessing true focus is a rare superpower…

But understanding the subtle mechanics of human attention might just be the most valuable skill in our increasingly distracted world.

Today, we're exploring the extraordinary work of Will Henshall - a guy who doesn't just create music, but deconstructs how sound interacts with our neurological operating system. Will is a a musician, inventor, and entrepreneur who went from writing global #1 hit songs to reverse-engineering human focus like it's a complex guitar solo.

So what happens when a rock star decides brain science is more interesting than guitar riffs? How does a musician become the inventor who helps millions concentrate? What secret sauce turns creative chaos into entrepreneurial magic?

Like many of us, Will describes himself as “unemployable.” But to Will, that can be an advantage: being "unemployable" means seeing opportunities where others see obstacles, whether in music, technology, or business.

Successful entrepreneurs don't get everything right, but they’re relentless: they keep adapting and moving forward.

It's not about talent. It's about seeing the world from a unique and different perspective - and having the guts to build something when everyone else says it can't be done.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

Why different brain types require unique sonic approaches to maintain concentration, especially if you have ADHD

How to choose music to aid focus, flow, and productivity based on your brain type

Why AI and generative art can't replicate the emotional power of live human creativity

And much more…

Connect with Will on his website and check out his new book for male entrepreneurs called Masculine Intelligence.

Please take a moment to make sure you’re subscribed wherever you listen to podcasts.
